Term 1 – Week 2
We have had a fabulous week of learning in Y3/4 this week…
As writers and readers, Year 3/4 have encountered a new book called Beowulf. Before we started to read the book we became archaeologists and excavated for hidden artefacts which were linked to the book. We enjoyed asking questions about what we found hoping to find answers in the story.
In PE this week, Chandra Class loved learning about a new sport. We got to understand the basics of hockey and we cannot wait to learn more and improve our skills!
As mathematicians we have continued out work on place value. We have been looking at 3 and 4 digit numbers to partition and order them.
Year 3 mathematicians were also learning how to partition 3 digit numbers using a range of resources to help.
As historians we have started to think about our enquiry, ‘What happened when the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings came to Britain?’. We learned about what happened in Britain in 410AD when the Romans left to concentrate on protecting other parts of their empire that were under attack. The Angles, Jutes and Saxons migrated to Britain from Northern Germany and Scandinavia so that they could avoid the flooding and cold weather. They were looking for land to settle in and set up homes, farms and villages. We discussed if the Anglo-Saxons were ‘invaders’ or ‘settlers’ – our lesson ended with us taking a stand!
As citizens, in our PSHE lessons so far this term we have been getting to know each other and establishing our class teams. We thought about how we could make sure that everybody in our classes felt included.
