Term 1 – Week 3
What a fantastic week!
As writers this week we met the character Grendel and wrote a character description all about what a horrible monster he is. As part of our writing journey we ‘hot-seated’ the King so we could find out more information about his attacks. We cannot wait to continue reading the book and find out what happens next …
We also had the opportunity to share some our learning with our class. We decided to encourage our powerful vocabulary and language skills we would perform it like a scary story. We made our room dark and shone a torch to bring the character Grendel to life.
As year 3 mathematicians have continued our knowledge of place value. This week we have compared different numbers, finding 1, 10 and 100 more or less and used number lines to estimate where a number could be.
As part of our enquiry we looked at some artefacts found at Sutton Hoo. We were detectives and asked and answered some questions questions about the belongings that were found.
As scientists, we researched insects of our choice and decided if they were helpful or harmful. Here are some images of us completing our research.
We have also set an observational experiment to see what happens to caterpillars over time. We will document what we notice before understanding the science behind our observations as part of our insect learning journey. Ask us about what we have noticed and our predictions for the week ahead.
In PE we have looked at our footwork skills and understood how we can use these new skills in our hockey lessons. We have continued to improve our skills as athletes and cannot wait to play more hockey.
As citizens we considered who makes up our school community. There are lots of people who are part of our school and we need all of them to make sure that everything works smoothly!
