Term 1 – Week 5
What a great week!
As writers this week we have looked at a variety of persuasive sources. We watched some videos of speakers and read some persuasive writing so we knew what good ones looked and sounded like. We then used this information to write our own persuasive speech in the role of Beowulf to convince the Land of the Geats to crown him to be king. We also practiced our Oracy skills when we performed them to our class.
After we finished writing our persuasive speech in the role of Beowulf Chandra Class had the opportunity to practice their oracy skills and perform their speech in role to the rest of the class.
As linguists we continued recapping and expanding our knowledge of numbers. This week we created a number line and played our favourite game ‘elevens’ but in French.
In PE we continued to focus on our balancing skills and footwork so that we can become better athletes and use these skills in our hockey lessons.
In our PSHE lesson this week we learned about our rights, responsibilities and democracy. We explored ‘The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child’ and as citizens, we read the list of articles and shared what our thoughts, feelings and opinions on these were. We learned that everyone under the age of 18 has all of the rights in the convention and were surprised by how many rights we have as children.
Talk Tuesday gave us an interesting question this week, we spoke about responsibility. We thought about similarities and differences between responsibilities at home, in school and as citizens of Uphill and Weston.
