Term 1 – Week 6
Welcome to the penultimate week of term 1!
…and what a week it’s been! Thank you to all the parents who attended parents evening this week, it was lovely to be able to share your children’s learning with you and discuss how they are settling in to our year 3/4 classes. We have been doing some brilliant learning again this week…
As writers, we have continued to work on the book Beowulf. We’ve been looking at the feature of a narrative text and then imagining and describing our own monsters so that we can include them in an extra chapter where Beowulf, yet again, overcomes a monster! We used a story arc to help us structure our plans…
As citizens, we read the book, ‘Along came a different.’ In it, the reds, yellows and blues just don’t get on with each other. They argue and don’t mix with each other and are always falling out. To solve this, they come up with a list of rules. Which works for a while until along comes another different who likes all the colours and everything changes. They realise that it’s good to be different and it’s ok to be friends with everyone. We tried out the rules for ourselves and decided they just made us sad and they weren’t fair. We finished by creating our own class collage to celebrate everyone being different!
As artists, we have been working on the skill of drawing. This week we explored light and shade using a range of pencil grades.
Chandra class then looked at different textures found in our school and thought about what artistic skills would be needed to make a drawing of them realistic.
As linguists, year 3/4 recapped and consolidated our French number knowledge up to 20 and took it even further when we learnt our numbers up to 30. We then enjoyed playing a game of bingo with all of this learning.
As athletes Chandra Class practiced their hockey skills just before the rain made us come back inside.
