Term 2 – Week 2

We’ve had another busy week in Year 3/4 this week. There have been lots of different events and activities taking place alongside the usual learning. Here are just some of the highlights…

Remembrance Day

Term 2 - Week 2

We had a remembrance day assembly on Wednesday and  as part of this, thought about the ideas of service and sacrifice. We explored what this meant and paid tribute to the men and women of the Second World War generation, and to those of today’s, who have served and sacrificed to defend our nation by holding a two minutes silence at 11am.

Thank you for your donations to this year’s poppy appeal.

Sumdog Competition

The competition has now ended and we couldn’t be more proud of all our year 3/4 children who took part in this. Although we didn’t get one of the top spots, all three classes did really well and it was great to see that so many of you took part. Across the whole of the country 2455 classes entered so we think you’ll agree that our results are pretty good…

Maths

Our focus this week (and for the next couple of weeks) is multiplication. We have started this by recapping our knowledge of grouping items into equal groups and using arrays to help us picture this in different ways. Next week, we move on to multiplying and dividing by 10/100. You can help us at home by practicing our times tables with us!

Wesport Winter Games

This week our challenge was to do as many figure of 8’s as we could in 60 seconds. This is when you pass a ball around your legs in a figure of 8. It’s a tricky move and we had to concentrate really hard but we definitely enjoyed it!

Work of the Week

Work of the week this week goes to:

Chandra – Megan, for some excellent writing this week. She has created suspense and intrigue in her story and worked really hard on her writing.

Voyager – Annabel, for using a variety of sentence starters in her story writing this week. She has produced some fabulously descriptive writing.

Sputnik – Ari, for some amazing work in his English. He has used the story we learned last week to help him plan his own scary story full of suspense. He has shown great stamina in his writing and his presentation has also improved.

Well done all of you, keep up the hard work!

Children in Need

Lastly, to end the week we marked Children in Need on Friday. Thank you to everyone for all coming to school in your sports kit and for all the generous donations you have made. This year the focus was on ‘five to thrive’ – a campaign centred around wellbeing, to help everyone in schools feel healthier and happier. All three classes took part in a wake and shake activity this morning, before heading off around the track for a run as part of this. Good job everyone!
