Term 2 – Week 5
We’ve had a jam-packed week in year 3/4 this week with lots of exciting learning taking place…
Science
The science topic we have been investigating this term is sound. This week we looked at volume and pitch. We made fortune tellers to help us think about what is happening when a musical instrument is being played at louder and quieter volumes and when they are played at a higher and lower pitch. Ask us about it when we are home, so we can explain what we found out!
Times Tables – Play and Learn…
Over the last couple of weeks, our focus in maths has been on practicing multiplication and division. As part of this, we have been learning our times tables and the related division facts to go with them. Learning times tables, so they can be recalled automatically, is a key skill in maths and can really help with lots of other problem solving activities. One of the ways you can support your child with this is by helping them to practice regularly. The following websites have some great, interactive games to make learning them more fun:
Project
This week we have been looking at the Spanish Armada and what the reasons were for them invading England in 1588. The word Armada means greatest navy! It was made up of 130 ships fitted with 2,500 guns. This event is famous because at that time England was a small nation with a relatively small navy and they were facing the greatest power in the world at that time, Spain. Despite their huge fleet of ships and massive effort, they were not successful in their attack. Here are some pictures we drew of ships from the Spanish Armada!
Voyager Class Assembly
Voyager have been busy rehearsing and recording their class assembly and are really looking forward to sharing this with you in Tuesday next week. Make sure you check out the video section of our website to see them.
Christmas Countdown
Christmas has officially arrived at Uphill Village Academy with our magnificent Christmas tree arriving on Monday this week. We have lots of festive activities coming up over the next two weeks and you can find more details of these in our most recent newsletter. We are having fun practising and recording our Christmas carols for you to listen to – the ‘concert’ of our KS2 classes will be available for you to watch in the last week of term. To finish this week’s blog, a reminder for you all that next Friday 11th December, is Christmas jumper day.
