Term 3 Week 2

This week has been both busy and exciting, filled with wonderful learning across all areas of the curriculum.

As mathematicians, we have been exploring fractions—what they are, how they can be represented, and how they help us describe parts of a whole. The children have been working with visual models, studying shapes, and beginning to compare different fractions.

As writers, we have been delving deeper into our class novel, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. We focused on the features of diary entries and discussed how characters express their thoughts and emotions through personal writing. The children have begun planning their own diary entries from Edward’s point of view, imagining his feelings and reactions during key moments of his life.

As geographers, we have been researching the Southwest of England, investigating both its human and physical features. We looked at natural landmarks such as Dartmoor, the Jurassic Coast, and the dramatic coastline, as well as human landmarks including historic towns, ports, and cultural attractions. The children have enjoyed discovering what makes this region unique.

As scientists, we have been exploring the scientific names of the bones in our bodies. We discussed why scientists use scientific terminology and learned the names and functions of key bones. The children loved locating these bones on diagrams—and even on themselves!

Overall, it has been a fantastic week of curiosity, creativity, and hard work. We look forward to building on all of this learning next week!
