Term 3 Week 5
Another fantastic week of learning in year 3/4.!
As geographers, we used atlases to locate the countries of Europe and described the United Kingdom’s position in relation to them using the points of a compass.

As writers, we explored an example text – an innovated chapter of our class book Edward Tulane – and identified the key features we will be using in our own story writing next week.

As scientists, we learned what X-rays are, what they show, and why they are so useful. We examined real X-ray images and identified the bones they revealed.

We also learned about muscles and how they help us move. We discovered that muscles work in pairs: as one muscle contracts, the other relaxes. We observed this ourselves by feeling our biceps and triceps working together to move our arms.

In addition, we discussed how muscles get their fuel—oxygen carried in our blood, which is pumped around our bodies by the heart. To explore this further, we conducted an experiment by holding one hand in the air and the other by our side while repeatedly clenching and relaxing our fists. We found that the arm held above our heads became tired more quickly, because it was harder for the blood to reach it.
