Term 5 – Week 1

A big welcome back after the Easter break to all of year 3/4 – we hope you enjoyed a restful and relaxing couple of weeks off. Term 5 has got off to a great start this week as we become geographers for our enquiry, ‘Where in the world is the Amazon?’ We used atlases to locate and find the continent of South America and then label the countries which are part of it. We located and named the surrounding oceans and used compass directions to describe where to find each country…

As artists, we explored using oil and chalk pastels. We experimented with them to create different effects by layering, blending and using templates. We will build on these techniques and use our ideas from this later in the term to create our own ‘animals of the rainforest’ pictures inspired by the art of Henri Rousseau.

In maths we have been learning about money; how many pence make a pound? Can we convert pounds and pence to pence and back again. When given different amounts of money can we place them in ascending and descending order? Using the symbols < > and = can we compare amounts of money?
