Term 6 Week 2
We have had a fantastic and engaging week in Years 3 and 4!
As scientists, we continued our exciting new topic on Electricity. The children began by sorting electrical and non-electrical appliances before moving on to exploring simple circuits. They discussed what is needed for a circuit to work, including the importance of a complete loop with no gaps, a power source, and correctly connected components (with positive and negative ends). The children then examined a range of circuit diagrams, made predictions about whether each circuit would work, and brought their ideas to life by building and testing their own circuits.

As writers, we focused on newspaper writing. The children analysed a newspaper article, identifying key features such as headlines, introductions, and factual reporting. This work will support them in writing their own newspaper articles based on the events in the book Flotsam.

As mathematicians, we began a new unit on charts and graphs. The children explored how data can be presented visually using different types of charts. They learnt how graphs help us to organise information clearly, identify patterns, compare results, and draw conclusions from data.
