Term 6 Week 3

What an amazing week!

To start off our week we had Shane and Chris from NSSPEA deliver an orienteering activity for the whole school. We loved being outside and using our knowledge of our school to locate pictures and animals.

How lucky are we? We had 2 visitors this week. Our second visitor was Mr Moffitt from ‘No Outsiders’. In Sputnik he read us the story, ‘We’re all Wonders’ which is about a boy called Oggy. We talked about how everyone is different but that in our class (and school)  everybody belongs.

In Chandra and Voyager, he told us a story about a child who didn’t speak English and how a child tried her hardest to communicate and be friends without knowing each others language. He then read us a story ‘Red: a crayons story’ where we gave the crayon positive encouragement.

As linguists we loved listening to Mrs Curtis reading us the story of Little Red Riding Hood in French. We spotted any words we had already learnt in our French lessons and spotted any words that were similar to our English vocabulary.

As scientists we continued our learning of circuits and added a buzzer, switch or motor to our circuits and learnt what the symbols were so we could draw the circuits we created.

In our year 3 maths lessons we continued with our learning all about measure and we have moved on from measuring maths to measuring capacity and volume. We enjoyed looking at the capacity of different containers and then measuring the volume of water. We even took our learning outside.

As writers we have learnt about imperative verbs and how they are used in instructions. We had a practice at giving instructions and even Mrs Gilbert got involved!
