Term 6 Week 7
It’s art week!
Alongside our regular lessons, every afternoon we have explored some art. As a ‘no outsiders school’ we chose artists who are different and year 3/4 had Yinka Shonibare a Nigerian/British artist.
We started our week by researching our artist and found out lots of information about him. We found out that Shonibare had an infection when he was younger that affected his spinal cord which resulted in him being paralysed on his left side.

In our next session, we had a go at drawing one of Shonibare’s prints but in different ways. We had the challenge of drawing without taking our pencil off our paper, not looking at our paper, drawing with two different colours at one time and finally drawing with a different body part. This was challenging but gave us the opportunity to explore being an artist with something taken away from our ‘normal’ selves or adding something in.

We then had the opportunity to draw the same print but we only had 3 minutes on our piece of paper before moving and doing the same again on a different piece of paper. This gave an end piece that had over 10 different artists involved.

After exploring the art we then designed, planned and created our own piece of work inspired by Shonibare’s prints. We then used wax crayons to create our final piece.

Finally, as a school we had an art showcase where we visited each classroom to see the art they had done this week.

As writers, we have written our non-chron reports all about the Maya Civilisation.
In our maths lesson, we have continued to learn how to tell the time, focussing on telling time to the minute as well as looking at digital clocks.

To finish our enquiry questions ‘Where in the world is the Amazon found?’ and ‘What happened to the Mayan Civilisation?’ we had the Year 2’s come to visit us so we could share our learning with them.

For our PSHE learning, we have started looking forwards to next year, thinking about goals as well as any achievements we have made this year.
