Week 2

This week we have been busy finding out more about our enquiry, How is my body amazing? We have talked about the function of the skeleton and we have discovered that a skeleton is needed for protection, support and movement. Did you know that the ribcage protects our delicate internal organs?

PSHE
Our focus this term is ‘dreams and goals’ – for our first lesson we were thinking about what our dreams were and then listened to the story of Michael Jorden and how he became a professional basketball player. He overcame negative comments about his height when he was young and persevered with his dream. He practised hard and kept going even when he didn’t think he was getting anywhere! Our task was to retell his story by each taking a small part of his story then sequencing it, so it made sense. We showed great teamwork both in our small groups and as a class when retelling his biography ‘salt in his shoes’.

The children have responded well to being in smaller maths groups and we would like to take the opportunity to welcome Mrs Want to our team. Mrs Want, who is our school maths lead, is working with some of our Year 4 children.

This week, we have been busy multiplying two and three digit numbers by a single digit. We have used apparatus, drawn representations and used more formal methods to solve multiplication problems.

Please continue to support and encourage your children to learn their times tables as it is so beneficial.

Here are some useful websites that help with learning times tables:

On a pastoral note, the school is focusing on acts of kindness. During Council Crew, the children have been thinking about and discussing ways to show kindness to others.
