Week beginning 16th May
This week we have been getting ready for the 150th anniversary of Uphill School with a range of activities and work. In Year 3/4 we learned about what it was like to be an evacuee during the Second World War and looked at the accounts of two people who were sent to Uphill as children in 1939. We used this as inspiration for our own recounts and wrote stories in role as an evacuee coming to Uphill. We also did some drama, acting out the experiences of evacuated children.
In addition to the second world war, we used this opportunity to remember the nineteen young men from Uphill who fought in the First World War and never returned home. We celebrated them with a range of art work that included the use of oil pastels, paint and pencil drawings.
Examples of the children’s fabulous work will be on display in the Victory Hall next week.
Have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing the children back on Monday.
