Week beginning 21st March

We have all been delighted that the sun has shone this week. It makes such a difference being able to use the outside space.

In science this week, the children have been continuing their work on digestion. We carried out three different experiments to see what happens during the digestive process. Using a tube of toothpaste, we gently squeezed the toothpaste out to mimic the muscles in the oesophagus. We then put bread and cola into a sealed plastic bag and churned it around so that we could see what becomes of the food in the stomach. Finally, (and the most disgusting of all) we put some mushed up food into a pair of tights and observed how the liquid is removed and what can’t be absorbed into the human body.

Next week we are looking forward to a visit from an expert on teeth.

During English we have been finding out more about explanation texts in readiness for planning and then writing up a piece about what happens during human digestion. We have learned how to take notes and shared our knowledge with each other.

We are also busy learning some songs in readiness for our Raise the Roof Festival. The children have been working hard to learn some tricky songs.
