Week beginning 21st November
This week in our English lessons, we have been researching and taking notes about Elizabeth I. This is so that we can include the information we find in a non-chronological report that we are planning and writing next week. Our work links with our enquiry question, ‘Who was the greatest monarch of the Tudor age?’ and will help us make conclusions which will help us answer this.
In maths over that last couple of weeks we have been working on addition and subtraction. We have been using manipulatives to help us understand the formal written methods and to help with our problem solving skills.
We are also continuing to learn our times tables. Weekly homework is set on Sumdog and there is also the mathsframe website you can visit. Please see below for details.

Our Enquiry lessons this week have focussed on Elizabeth I and events during her reign. She was a popular and strong leader. But, Elizabeth had enemies like King Philip of Spain.
In 1588, he sent the Spanish Armada, a fleet of more than 100 ships, to invade England. Elizabeth stayed strong. She told her soldiers and sailors: “I know I have but the body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a king of England too.” Her ships attacked and the weather helped blow the Armada away from England. England and Elizabeth had won!
We learned about the invasion of the Spanish Armada and created art based on the ships which were part of the fleet…we will share these next week!
