Week beginning 6th February
Year 3/4 have been learning about Rock and Soil in science this term. We shared our learning with year 2. The year 3/4 children certainly rose to the challenge to become teachers and explain what they had learned…
This week it was Children’s Mental Health Week. We made paper chains showing all the things that make us feel ‘connected’.
In PE we have been working on our tag rugby skills. We played a game called cat and mouse, an evasion game, odds and evens and also practised passing the ball to one another.
In our enquiry lesson this week we were historians and artists. We found out about Hernan Cortés and how he conquered the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan so he could take the land and build the Spanish Empire. After conquering the Aztecs, the city of Tenochtitlan was renamed as Mexico City. It became the Spanish capital of the territory which was called New Spain. Cortés was named governor of the land by King Charles I of Spain. We researched the Aztec Empire and found out about the sunstone sculpture. Measuring 4m in diameter, the Sun Stone is one of the largest Aztec sculptures ever found. It contains various mythical and astrological figures but the most important is the Sun god in the centre. It may have been used as an interactive calendar, or perhaps the altar for sacrifices. We had a go at producing some art based on this…
