Week beginning 7th February

This week has been Children’s Mental Health Week. The children carefully considered the things that will help them to grow not only in body but also in mind. They discussed how important it is to have kind and caring people around them, people they can talk to, good friends and things they enjoy. All of these things help them to develop into happy, well balanced individuals.  As part of Mental Health Week the children also draw their support network as hot air balloons.

Additionally, on Tuesday it was Safer Internet Day. The theme was about respect and safe relationships online. Ben, who is from the Avon and Somerset police force, came to talk to the children about how they can keep themselves safe when on the internet. His message was, remember if something upsets you then share this with a trusted adult and never go to meet in person someone you have only ever only met online.

During this week, the children have been continuing with their work on perimeter and area. In Year 3, the children were involved in many practical activities. They went outside to measure the perimeter of the netball court and other parts of the playground. To start, they measured perimeter with their feet. After some discussion, they realised that this measurement would not be accurate as their feet were all different sizes.  They then used a trundle wheel to measure the netball court in metres. Other activities included  matching shapes to their correct perimeter.
