Week beginning 7th Novemeber

It has been yet another busy week in Year 3 and 4.

In English, we have started work on writing a diary entry. We have linked this to our enquiring about the Tudors and we have been finding out more about the early live of Queen Elizabeth the First. We have discovered that as a young woman, Elizabeth was imprisoned in the Tower of London by her sister, Queen Mary. Next week we will be writing in role describing what it was like being imprisoned in the Tower.

In maths, we are continuing to learn our times tables. Weekly homework is set on Sumdog and there are also the mathsframe website you can visit. Please see below for details.

As historians, we have been finding out what it was like being a monk or nun in the 15 century. We discovered that they lived a peaceful life in a monastery, convent or abbey. Monks and nuns would pray and sing in church eight times a day. There was only one meal a day which was a kind of porridge made from soggy bread, vegetables and herbs. Some monks and nuns worked on the land growing food to eat, whilst others tended the sick in the infirmary or wrote and illustrated beautiful manuscripts.

This term in P.E. we are focusing on hockey. We have been learning how to hold a hockey stick correctly, dribble and pass the ball.

Over the half term holiday, it was the Hindu festival of Diwali. As part of our work on Hinduism, we designed and made our own lanterns to celebrate this festival of light.
