Week beginning 9th May 2022
Its been another productive week in year 3/4.
As part of our Geography enquiry, ‘Where is our place in Europe?’, we have been finding out about the counties which make up England using our map skills. We were locating counties and using an eight-point compass to describe where they could be found in relation to each other. We discovered that Uphill is in the county of Somerset in the South West of England. We were amazed that to get to London, you must travel through two other counties, Wiltshire and Berkshire!
In science, the children have been investigating circuits and the difference between a circuit being complete and incomplete. We recognised that for a circuit to be complete it needed a power source (battery), couldn’t have any gaps and wires needed to connect too both ends of the power source so that the electric current could flow. We used our new knowledge to make predictions then tested by making the circuits to see if we were correct. We realised that if the circuit was complete then the bulb would light.
In English we have been researching bottlenose whales and have produced a leaflet detailing their appearance, behaviour and diet, habitat and the threats they face. We were amazed to discover that their tongue can weigh as much as an elephant!
In P.E this we have been doing a mixture of rounders and French cricket.
As ever, there has been much more besides in another very busy week! We hope you all have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing the children on Monday.
