Welcome back to School
It has been lovely seeing all of the children back in their classes. We are really impressed with how well the children have settled down and how enthusiastic they are about returning to school.
This week the children have been busy getting back into the swing of things.
In English the children have been learning a Talk for Writing story called, ‘The Lost Temple of Gold’. This is in preparation for when they write their own adventure stories next week. Each class has also been learning a poem which will be filmed and then performed to the rest of the school.
The children have been busy working on column addition and subtraction in maths and revisiting work on soils and rocks in science.
After learning about the explorers Christopher Columbus and Franciso Pizarro, the children have been finding out about the life of the Spanish explorer Hernan Cortes. They discovered that Cortes was a conquistador who led an expedtition which caused the fall of the Aztec Empire. The Aztecs lived in Mexico and were the builders of pyramids, canals, temples and vast cities. They also worshipped many gods. After looking at images of Aztec gods, the children created their own sun gods.
