Welcome back! Term 1 – Week 1
Welcome back to school to another new school year. We hope you have all had a restful and relaxing summer holiday. All of the staff in Y3/4 would like to take this opportunity to say thanks again for the cards and gifts we received at the end of a very busy Summer Term.
This week we have welcomed back our year 4 and new year 3 cohorts and it has been lovely to see so many smiling, enthusiastic faces in our classes as we start the new school year.
This week we have been working hard to learn a poem called, ‘Change Sings’. We have used this to write our own poems and have published our own class versions. Here are some pictures of us completing work related to our writing…
We have also been geographers and discussing the place where we live. We thought about the UK and used atlases to name and then locate cities found in England. We looked at some famous English landmarks and grouped them into physical and human landmarks…
Our enquiry over the next two terms is called, ‘What happened when the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings came to Britain?’. We will explore the period of time from 410 – 1066 AD and find out what Britain was like during this time. It is known as the Dark Ages and we will try and decide if the Anglo-Saxons were invaders or settlers? How did things change in Britain over this time and were the Vikings really as vicious as everybody says?
Please can we encourage you to support you child with their reading – this can be recorded in their home school diaries which we check each week. We would like each child to read at least 3 times per week.
This term, Voyager will be swimming on a Thursday afternoon so please ensure that they have their labelled swimming kit in school for this. They will all need a packed lunch on this day. A plastic bag for their wet clothes to go into after is recommended. A parent letter with more information is being sent home too.
Many thanks for you support – we are looking forward to another fantastic year of learning with our children!
