First week back – Term 2

First week back - Term 2

Our learning this week…

We hope you enjoyed a relaxing week over half term. We have started this term by researching Shakespeare as one of the famous people from Tudor times. We enjoyed finding out about his about about his life and the lasting impact he had on the words we use everyday. Did you know that some of the phrases he wrote have become a part of our everyday language. For instance, you might have heard someone in trouble say that they’re ‘in a pickle’, or heard being jealous described as ‘the green-eyed monster’. He certainly had a way with words!

First week back - Term 2

In English we have been reading a short story called ‘The Manor House’. It is a shocking tale; full of fear and mystery. We are exploring how the author has created suspense and are going to use this to create our own scary stories next week.

Work of the Week

This week we were really impressed with:

Voyager – Theodora – for her great work in maths, particularly in learning how to exchange when using column subtraction.

Chandra – Lily P – for writing a super recall of the story we have been learning in English, The Manor House. She showed excellent perseverance and writing stamina!

Sputnik – Aaliyah – She produced a brilliant story map for ‘The Manor House’ and was able to use this to help her retell the story. She swapped some of the verbs in the text for her own word choices and has shown great focus.

Wesport Winter Games

This week saw the launch of the ‘Wesport Winter Games’. Each week a 60 second challenge is set for us to take part in – this week it was how many star jumps can we do in a minute. We really enjoyed ourselves and had a lot of laughs trying to get as many as we could!

Sumdog competition (6-12 November)

First week back - Term 2

This Friday sees the beginning of a sumdog national competition. We have entered out three Y3/4 classes and as homework this week, we are asking children to take part in answering as many questions as they can during the time the competition lasts. The more children that join in and the more correct questions that are answered the better our chances of getting a top spot – good luck everyone!
