Term 1 Week 1
Welcome back! It has been wonderful to see everyone return to school with such positive attitudes and smiling faces. The children have settled brilliantly into their new classes, made new friendships, and embraced the start of the new year with great enthusiasm.
We are already off to a flying start, with everyone demonstrating excellent effort, hard work, and a fantastic willingness to learn. It has been lovely to see the children engaging so positively in all aspects of school life.
As Historians, we began our exciting new enquiry question for this term: “How Did Ancient Egyptian Civilization Evolve?” We explored where Egypt is located in the world and identified it on a map before examining the importance of the River Nile. The children considered how the river supported the development of Ancient Egyptian Civilization by providing water, food, fertile land for farming, and an important transport route. They asked thoughtful questions and showed great curiosity as we launched our new topic.

As Athletes, we were fortunate to take part in a session led by Somerset Cricket. The children had great fun while developing their teamwork skills and practicing key cricket techniques, including catching, throwing, and striking a ball. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm, encouragement, and determination from everyone throughout the session.
As Artists, we created artwork inspired by the book ‘The Girls’ by Lauren Ace. Through the story, we explored the importance of friendship and discussed how our relationships grow and change over time. The book encouraged us to think about valuing both our similarities and our differences, and how these unique qualities help to make friendships strong and meaningful. The children produced thoughtful and creative pieces of artwork reflecting the themes of belonging, kindness and being yourself.

We are incredibly proud of the positive start Year 5 / 6 has made and look forward to another exciting week of learning ahead!
