Term 1 Week 3
What a fantastic week it has been in Year 5/6! We have been incredibly impressed by the hard work, determination and enthusiasm shown by all the children across their learning.
As historians, we continued our enquiry, “How Did the Ancient Egyptian Civilisation Evolve?” This week, we focused on the incredible Pyramids of Giza, using our research skills to analyse a range of historical sources and uncover fascinating facts. We learned that the Great Pyramid was built over 4,500 years ago, stands at around 146 metres tall and was originally constructed as a tomb for the Pharaoh Khufu. We also discovered who built the pyramids, why they were created and what treasures and chambers could be found inside. The children asked thoughtful questions and demonstrated excellent source analysis skills throughout their learning.
As mathematicians, our Year 6 pupils worked hard comparing and ordering numbers, as well as identifying sequences and patterns. We were particularly impressed by the determination shown when tackling challenging reasoning tasks, with children explaining their thinking clearly and applying their mathematical knowledge with increasing confidence.

As writers, we completed our non-chronological reports about Howard Carter. The children worked hard to incorporate formal language, relative clauses and examples of passive voice to make their writing informative and engaging. We have been delighted by the high standard of work produced, with pupils demonstrating excellent attention to detail and a growing confidence in using more sophisticated grammatical features.
As athletes we continued to develop our hocky skills, focusing on on controlling the ball when passing and dribbling.

Well done, Year 5/6, for another excellent week of learning. Keep up the fantastic effort and positive attitude!
