Term 1 Week 4

Week 4

Year 5/6 have had a great week this week.  There’s lots of learning happening now and the children are really motivated.

As readers, we introduced a new approach to guided reading after lunch called ‘Just Read’.  The idea is we read a high quality book to the children for half an hour every day with a particular focus on vocabulary and summarising events. This week we started Wolf Brother and the children are thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to track their adult’s reading and enjoy the story.

As mathematicians, we worked well in our split Year 5 and 6 groups before we came together on Thursday and Friday for arithmetic lessons.  We were really pleased with the children’s engagement with arithmetic homework and hop that, over time, this will help to build their confidence completing arithmetic papers every other Friday. On Thursday’s lesson this week, the children rolled dice to create three number to multiply together.

As historians, we reviewed our learning from last week and then thought about the difference between historical facts and historical interpretation in relation to what we knew about Cheddar Man.
