Term 6 Weeks 5 and 6
Week 5 & 6
What a couple of weeks! So much has happened over the last two weeks, including the Year 6s being able to spend a few days in their new schools. This transition always works well and really helps to settle a few nerves and make things easier for the children as September creeps closer over the summer holidays. They came back after the long weekend really enthusiastic about their new school and lots of them had made new friends.
After transition, these last two weeks can be a little challenging for some Year 6 children as they see their time at Uphill coming to an end and are associating more closely with their new school, so it has been important for us to remind them about staying respectful, kind and making sure everyone can enjoy their last few days.
As learners, the Year 6 cohort received an excellent set of SATs results which teachers were pleased and proud to share with them. We hope they have come home really positive about their results because a lot of them did better than they thought they would. It was great to see their months (if not years) of hard work being rewarded.
As thespians, whole of Year 5/6 can also be hugely proud of the performances they put on of ‘Pirates of the Curry Bean’. Again, they worked so hard to prepare and they got the amazing feeling of pride and relief at preparing thoroughly and doing something well. For all of you who were able to make it, I hope you agree – it was an excellent show with lots of outstanding individual performances. Every single child played their role and did it brilliantly. It’s hard work for the 5/6 team to pull it together but the end result makes it so worthwhile.

We also managed to squeeze in a transition morning for children to meet their new teachers and classmates. During this, our current Year 5s (soon to be Year 6s) were really welcoming to the new children coming into Year 5 and every class had a happy, successful morning. We’re looking forward to starting with our new mixes in September.
