Term Three Week 4
How exciting that this week sees us taking part in The Big Schools Birdwatch (organised by the RSPB)! To help us with our birdwatching skills and knowledge, we welcomed Mark Matthews into school to talk to the whole of KS2 about how to use binoculars effectively and what birds we would likely to be able to see flying over our school field. All classes will have the opportunity to carry out a tally of the different types of birds we spot in the sky and surrounding trees before our eco-ambassadors in Orion class input the data collected to the RSPB.
As mathematicians this week, we have been developing our problem-solving skills by working in groups and applying our knowledge of fractions, Together, we analysed and justified our thinking as part of our reasoning skills using oracy sentence stems.
Being writers, often means exploring characters in a book and writing in role as one of them. This is what we did this week when writing a diary entry from the point of view of Zoe – the main character in Floodland which we are reading as our current quality text. First, we carried out a hot=seating activity to understand her emotions and feelings during chapters one and two of the the book.
Then we used whiteboards to helps us write and edit as we went along to produce an independent piece of writing.
We can’t wait to see our final drafts published and displayed in our galleries of excellence!
As musicians, we have been learning to begin to read musical notation and played Mamma Mia on the glockenspiels. It was great fun and many of us knew the melody already which helped us play accurately.
We have been making the most of the cold, but fine weather when developing our hockey skills this week. Passing and dribbling with accuracy are key to keeping possession in invasion games.
