Term 1 – Week 1

Welcome to Year 2!

Pluto class: Miss Porter (Monday/Tuesday)

Mrs. Lorimer (Wednesday-Friday)

Mrs Owen will cover PPA in Pluto every other Tuesday morning and every other Friday morning

Jupiter Class: Miss Ware (Class teacher)

Mrs Beal (teaching partner).

Mrs Haberfield will cover PPA in Jupiter on Wednesday afternoons.

We are so excited to welcome all of our new children into year 2. We cannot wait to get to know all of them and spend the next year helping them  to grow. Will will update our website on a weekly basis to let you know what we get up to in Year 2.

Our enquiry for Terms one and two is ‘Where in the world are we?’ We will be learning about the local area and where we are within the UK and beyond. This week we have looked at our local area focussing on the location of our school using maps and keys to help us.

As a school we have been looking at a very special book called ‘The Lost Spells’. Each class has chosen a poem and will learn it to perform in front of the whole school on Friday. Pluto Class have a poem about a barn owl and Jupiter Class have one about a jackdaw.

As well as learning the poem both classes have been writing it in their best handwriting and have completed some art using water colours.

In maths this week we have been focusing on representing numbers using different resources and techniques.

For PE year 2 have been learning some ball skills and will continue to do so throughout this term.

As part of our PSHE we talked about any worries we may have for starting a new class and how we can deal with these. It was fantastic to hear how many worries disappeared on our first morning in school.
