Term 1- Week 3
Week 3
We have had another lovely week in year 2!
We have continued our project ‘Where in the world are we?’ this week by exploring maps of our local area and plotting landmarks of Weston on an ariel photo. We also looked at the keys on OS maps and discussed why we use the symbols. We were all able to then draw our own map of the school, plotting on things like the classroom and the pond area.
In maths this week we have been learning about place value. We have been comparing numbers to 50, counting and writing numbers to 100 and then went on to explore different ways of representing 100. We have had some brilliant discussions whilst practicing reasoning and problem skills.
For science this term we are learning about materials including solids, liquids and gasses. This week we discussed how the arrangement of atoms changes the matter. We used our bodies and counters to show the differences.
This week in our English lessons we started a new class book, ‘The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch’. We made predictions using the front cover and then predicted what might happen next as we read through the story. We have done lots of book talk and explored the personalities and feelings of the characters through freeze frames!
Our second cricket session with the cricket coach consisted of some super fun batting practice and some more catching practice. We loved it!
We cannot wait to see what fun and exciting learning we get to do next week!
