We started off our week in year 2 as scientists and engaged with a variety of experiments. Miss Porter and Miss Ware helped us to understand that not all liquids are the same and that the thicker the liquid the slower it moved. We poured a variety of liquids down a board and timed how long they took. We were surprised how slow the tomato ketchup was.

In our classes we had the opportunity to investigate capacity and even when a container looks full it might not hold the most liquid. We had a go at seeing how much liquid there was in the container and how cold the water was.

Finally we investigated whether gas has a weight. We used fizzy drink bottles for this experiment and weighed it before it had been opened and after. We found out that when you open the bottle it releases a gas call carbon dioxide and when it leaves the bottle it actually weighs less, even when you haven’t drank any of the liquid! WOW!

As geographers we learnt all about the regions of England and that we live in the South West region.

As writers this week we have been preparing ourselves to create a non-chronological report all about Weston-Super-Mare. We have described all of the things you can do and see here along with all of the delicious things you can eat. using our knowledge from our RNLI visitor last week we also have recapped how to be safe at the beach.

When being readers this week we have continued to look at a book called Flotsam which interestingly does not have any words inside. We have clarified what it means by the word Flotsam and next week we will become detectives and use our inference skills to find out more about the book.

We have had a very busy week being artists as well. This week we have explored tone and form allowing us to use a variety of resources. Did you know that if you press harder with a crayon it might become darker. We also found out that we can blend line using our fingers and rubbers.

Continuing with our fantastic learning, as mathematicians we were able to split numbers into tens and ones using part whole models and bar models. We were able to also make a variety of numbers using one resource to help our understanding.
