Term 2 Week 1

Welcome to Term 2

As the weather gets colder, please could we ask that children have a warm coat with them in school every day please.

As mathematicians, we have been learning about related facts. We have a secure understanding of number bonds and we now know that an inverse operation means the opposite operation so we are now extending our knowledge of facts that are related. For example, If I know that 3 +7 = 10, then I know that 13 + 7 = 20 and 20 – 13 = 7.

As computer scientists, we have been thinking about how technology is used in daily life. We focused on scanners and barcodes and how they work together to perform a job. We role played being the scanner, the barcode and the checkout worker. We needed to ‘scan’ the given barcode and decode which product was being purchased before offering the correct amount of money to the shop keeper.

As citizens, we have shared a story called Splash! which is all about the life of Claire Cashmore, a paralympic swimmer. We learned all about how her disability didn’t hold her back and how we can do anything if we put our minds to it. We were so inspired by her story that we wanted to find out more so used search engines to explore more about her life and achievements. We even watched a video of her competing at the Paralympics. We noticed how they celebrated the achievements of the winners and no-one cried when they didn’t win.
