Term 2 Week 1
Welcome to Term 2!
It was lovely being back together and hearing about everyone’s Autumn adventures!
As mathematicians, we have used our knowledge of number bonds to 10 to learn related facts to 20.
We used counters and 10s frames to help us with our understanding.
As scientists, we have continued looking at the three states of matter. We experimented to see if all solids changed state. The chocolate got hot in our hands and melted. It changed from a solid to a liquid. The raisins didn’t melt in our hands. They didn’t change state. We talked about how not all materials change state and thought about those that do like butter, water and ice lollies and those that don’t like raisins. We had great fun testing, observing and concluding!
As citizens, we were thinking about the things that we have in common. We started by looking at pictures of children and matching their likes and dislikes with their pictures. We got none correct! We talked about making assumptions and not judging people on first impressions. Not all girls like pink, not all boys like football and not all children have siblings. We then created a ‘special shield’ by finding things in common with our classmates. We finished by celebrating our similarities and differences.
As writers, we have started our new class book ‘The snail and the whale’. We started the week by making predictions about what we thought the story would be about and used the word ‘because’ to justify our predictions.
