Term 3 Week 1
Welcome back to a brand new term!
As the weather gets colder, please can we ask that all children come into school with a coat everyday.
As scientists, we have started our new topic: The Human Body, Systems and Health. We started the unit by thinking of some key questions that we would like to be able to answer by the end of the term. We started the topic by thinking about how we can keep our bodies clean and why it is important to do so. We then learned about germs and how they can spread if we don’t have good levels of hygiene. We observed how quickly germs can spread between people and surfaces after a sneeze by using glitter (the glitter represented the germs). We then learned about the importance of hand washing and how water alone won’t stop the germs, we need soap too. We then observed soap pushing the germs (pepper) away.

As writers, we have been introduced to the front cover of our new book, Oliver Twist. This week we haven’t read any of the story and instead we have been making predictions about the plot and the characters. We have been using descriptive language to describe how characters look and have been using our inference skills to offer ideas as to what this might mean for the characters. Are they nice or nasty? Do we think they will be rich or poor? Do we think the story will be sent in the past or present? We will start to read the book next week.
