Term 3- Week 1

Week 1

Welcome back! We have had a lovely few days in Year 2.

We started our new enquiry this week ‘Who has made the greatest difference?’ and as it is a history enquiry, we discussed what it means to be a historian. Ask us how we are historians! We went through our loops board so that we know what we are going to learn and then we thought about what we already know about the enquiry and what we would like to find out.

In English we have recapped the prior learning of nouns, adjectives, expanded noun phrases, and different sentence types. We practiced identifying different sentences and then thought of our own (statements, questions, exclamations and commands). Next week we will be starting our new book ‘Oliver Twist’. How exciting!

In maths this week we have started learning about money and we have loved it. We thought about everything we already know about money and then learnt all of the coins/notes that we have in England. We then practiced adding money and finally comparing amounts of money. We will be continuing this next week.

We focused on predicting for our reading skill this week and therefore we had lots of discussions about the cover of our new guided reading book ‘The Night Gardener’. There were so many brilliant, imaginative and logical ideas and we can’t wait to read the book!
