Term 3 Week 2

Welcome back to another week!

As mathematicians, we have been learning about addition and subtraction questions which require us to borrow and exchange. We started the week by using practical equipment to help us and then finished the week by writing our own sentences.

As scientists, we have been learning about the food we eat, paying particular attention to healthy choices. We learned that there are different food groups and we need different amounts of each food group in order to have a healthy and balanced diet. We had great fun presenting our knowledge by sorting food items into different groups and adding in our own items to each group too.

Fun fact: Did you know that a tomato is a fruit not a vegetable?

As writers, we have been thinking about different characters from our book ‘Oliver Twist’. We have been focusing on adjectives; what they are and how we can include them in our sentences.

We have written some descriptive sentences ready to use in our written descriptions next week.

Junior Science Club

This week in science club we completed an experiment to see what would happen if we added bicarbonate of soda to lemons. We made our predictions then completed the test. We observed bubbles and foaming starting to appear before bubbling over. We found out that these bubbles were actually gas that was made by the lemon juice reacting with the bicarb. This gas is called carbon dioxide. We then extended our thinking by testing different citrus fruits to see if the same thing happened. We decided that the more sour the fruit, the bigger the reaction.

We also had the opportunity to taste the different fruits. We laughed at the faces we made and then thought about our taste buds and how they work.
