Term 3 Week 4
It has been a busy week in Year 2!
As scientists, we have been learning about vaccines. A vaccine is another way to keep our bodies healthy. A vaccine is an injection that is given to our bodies. It is usually given using a needle into the top of our arms (because it is a good muscle!). The vaccine is a dead or weakened germ that goes into the body and the body learns how to fight it off. Our bodies need to do this because if we were to get poorly for real, then we need our bodies to know what to do. We role played being doctors, nurses and patients to present our scientific understanding. We used pretend vaccinations to give the vaccine and then used sensory balls which sprung into action once the body was vaccinated and once it came into contact with germs. We learned that a vaccine can only be given with consent and the doctor or nurse could only give the vaccination once consent was given (and after washing our hands of course!).
As citizens, we have been reading our no outsiders book for this term ‘How to be a lion’. We thought about how it is okay to be different we need to let people be themselves and respect that. We created a pinwheel which focused on differences between us on a range of topics and once we found a difference, we then used the phrase from the book ‘Why don’t you be you, and I will be I’ We finished by drawing pictures of Leonard the Lion and wrote why he is such a good lion around the outside.
As historians, we have been learning about key events that happened in the Victorian Era. We created a timeline to show the order in which these happened.
As computer scientists, we have been thinking about giving instructions and how these need to be clear, accurate and in order so that the computer knows what to do. We role played being the computer and a human. The humans needed to give instructions to the computer so that the computer can generate an image that the humans were given. We learned the importance of detail and being clear if we wanted the pictures to look correct. We will apply these skills next week when we use Bee-Bots to move.
