Term 3- Week 4

A huge thank you to everyone who has taken part in our Big Walk and Wheel week, we have seen a huge improvement as the week has gone one.

As Historians, we had a brilliant trip to visit the SS Great Britain to learn more about Isambard Kingdom Brunel. We visited the ship, learnt about how it had different classes. We were shocked with the living conditions for some of the passengers. After that, we visited the museum to learn more about Brunel. We were fantastically behaved and our teachers were so proud of us. As writers, we have been using our knowledge of writing recounts to write our own recount about our trip.

As mathematicians, we have been celebrating World Maths day which was on 14.03.24. We celebrated all things to do with maths. We were set two challenges. The first one was to look at everyday pictures and link them to the statements. For example: an object to big to count. We linked that to beach pebbles. The second challenge was to go around the school to see if we could find everyday objects in our school linked to the math statements. We found every single one. Repeating patterns, geometric shapes, large numbers, circles within circles, repeating patterns. We were shocked you could find so much maths in everyday objects.

As scientist, we have been using the skill, observing. We observed what happens to our food after we swallow. We learnt it went down the oesophagus, down to our stomach. Using the observing skill, we saw what happens once the food is in the stomach. We used a plastic bag, and water to show the enzymes in the stomach which breaks down the food.

In PE we had Dom from Somerset cricket to help us learn more about cricket. This week we focused on batting. We have some excellent cricketers in year 2.
