Term 3 Week 4
It has been another busy week in Year 2!
As scientists we have been learning all about vaccinations. We learned that vaccinations contain a vaccine that is actually made up of a weak version of the virus. Our bodies learn how to fight it off and build a defence strategy so that if we ever came into contact with the real virus, our immune systems know what to do! We applied our knowledge of keeping clean and knew about the importance of hand washing and a sealed injection. We then role played what happens when we get an injection to present our new scientific knowledge. We needed to remember that the injection is usually given in the arm where there is a muscle, we need to gain consent to give the vaccination and dispose of it properly. We completed our learning by thinking about our vaccinated bodies a bit like a squeezy toy. The defence strategy is in place (hidden inside the squeezy) but when it is needed, it can attack (press the squeezy to revel the liquid inside). We love being scientists!
As historians, we have been learning about the Victorian Hierarchy. We learned about the difference between working class, middle class, upper class (aristocrats) and the monarchy (royalty). We ordered these categories from richest to poorest and described the differences between each one.
As musicians, we have been learning about rhythm. We used a variety of instruments to follow the music, listen for the beat and ‘beat to the rhythm’ with our musical instruments.
RSPB Birdwatch. We loved the opportunity to get outside this week and focus on the wildlife in our grounds. We took part in the Birdwatch and tallied the birds that we saw. We enjoyed comparing our sightings and identifying the different birds.
