Term 3 Week 5

This week we welcomed back Mrs Gray to the Year 2 Team!

Mrs Gray has returned after maternity leave and we are all so excited to have her back. Mrs Gray will be teaching Pluto class on Thursdays and Fridays.

Science Club. This week in science club we have been making a special type of slime using corn flower. This type of slime is called a Non-Newtonian liquid and acts differently to normal liquids. As scientists, we had to find out why this type of liquid is different to normal liquids. We found out that it gets thicker and harder when pressed down (acts like a solid) and then acts like a liquid when no pressure is put on it. This is because the cornflower doesn’t actually dissolve in the water.

As writers we have been learning about the features of a diary. We looked at several examples and created a list of features that we noticed. We found that diaries are written in past tense, in first person, include thoughts and feelings and have a date of when they were written. Next week we will be writing our own diary entry in the role of Oliver Twist and will try to include these features in our own writing too.

As historians, we held our Victorian Wow Morning. We had the opportunity to look at artefacts and photographs to find out what life was like as a Victorian Child. We played games that a Victorian child would play, dressed up in Victorian clothing and role played a Victorian school. We all agreed that we much prefer school in 2025 to school in the 1800s!

As athletes, we have continued to learn about balance and stance. This week we have been thinking about the position of our feet and how this impacts our balance and played a game using cones to improve our core strength.
