Science-an exciting experiment using ‘real life bones’ (chicken bones) and vinegar (to represent the importance of calcium). One jar was filled with no vinegar (a balanced diet) and one jar filled with vinegar (no calcium in diet). They were left for a few days to see what would happen. We discovered that the bone with no calcium actually became bendy and soft, meaning it wouldn’t protect your organs. The rest of the lesson was spent discovering how important our skeleton was and what certain bones in our body were called.

As writers this week we wrote a creative story all about Brunel when he was a young engineer working on The Thames Tunnel. We used the facts and our imaginations to create some fantastic stories that had our friends and teachers on the edge of their seats.

As citizens we have been learning all about keeping healthy in our PSHE lessons which work well alongside our science lessons this term. We focused on how we can make ourselves feel better. We discussed that although medicine can help us there are other ways to make ourselves get over a headache etc like getting fresh air, drinking water and having some time to relax.

In Maths this week we have started learning all about fractions and how to identify equal parts. We loved looking at different types of food to help with our learning.
