Welcome Back!

We have had a fantastic first week back in year 2 and have been learning lots of new things.

We have started learning about our new project ‘What Made London Burn?’ all about The Great Fire of London. We have asked lots of questions and shared any information we already knew.

This week we have been learning all about mechanisms in DT and focused on the ‘pulley’ mechanism. We discussed where we could find these and how they worked. After this we made one out of Lego and explained how they worked. Jupiter Class took it one step further and found a pulley mechanism on one of the houses by the school field. This house was having some building work done on the roof and used a pulley to lift heavy objects.

We will be using this knowledge of mechanisms to help design something to put out the fire in The Great Fire of London.

In science this week we used our observational skills to look at seeds and bulbs. We had to identify which were seeds and which were bulbs, all while learning about the process of germination.

While in maths we have been learning all about equal groups and how to make them. This will help with our learning of multiplication in the coming weeks.
