Term 5-Week 1

Welcome Back!! A busy term ahead but an exciting one with lots more fantastic learning.

This terms enquiry is: What made London Burn?

We will be looking at what happened to London during this time and creating a newspaper article from their perspective.

During our history lesson we looked at where and when the fire started which connected well to our English lessons. We looked at London in 1666 and London today and found lots of similarities and differences.

English this week has been all about learning about what happened in London during the ‘fire’. We ended the week writing a description of what London was like in 1666.

Maths this week is all things shape-we’ve been on shape hunts and looking at the difference to a 2d shape (flat) and 3d (can move the shape). We also investigated what shapes have lines of symmetry.

We also went outside to explore symmetry and had a go at creating symmetrical shapes with a partner!

In Art this week we have been looking at what a collage is. We will be making a collage of a bird but using our computing skills of taking a picture of the school grounds and putting the bird onto this picture. This art is inspired by the work of Matthias Jung. We have started this week by experimenting with different textures. We used different objects to make different effects onto paper.

In computing, we have finished our work on taking a quality photograph by looking at the different effects we can use on a photo. We then went back a took a quality photograph and made sure we had good lighting, used portrait/landscape and made sure we were close to the object. Your children are now expert photographers.

In PSHE we have been looking at our knew topic of, relationships. We started looking at what makes a family. It was discussed they are all different and that was good. We then looked at what makes a good home. We then made a recipe of what a good home looked like.

As historians this week we have been learning all about when and where the fire took place.

We have started learning all about mechanisms this week in DT and have had the opportunity to build a pully as a team from Lego. Next week we will be learning how to build wheels and axels whilst understanding their purpose.

In PE this week we have started learning games for understanding. We played a game which focused on attacking.

Also in PE we have started a new topic: dance! The children explored different balances and moves, some standing up and some on the floor. it was great to see the children growing in confidence throughout the lesson and performing their own piece at the end.
