Term 5-Week 2
A very exciting week as we had our WOW day to help us learn more about our enquiry, ‘What made London Burn?’ Jethro who was Samuel Pepys’ servant travelled from the year 1666 to tell us about the Great Fire of London. We discovered lots of amazing things about what London was like 357 years ago. Jethro told us where the fire began, how the houses were made of wood and thatch and how the fire was eventually extinguished. We had a chance to dress up and pretend that we were people who had lived in London at the time of Samuel Pepys, Thomas Farriner, The Duke of York and King Charles the Second.
As writers we have been looking at non chronological reports, specifically, leaflets and what is needed in them. This will help us next week to write our leaflet celebrating London and why you should visit.
As mathematicians, we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes and talking about their properties (describing them). We have learnt about faces and vertices on 3D shapes.
As scientists, we have been using the skill of predicting. We have been predicting where would be the best place to grow beans and cress. We have four areas to show how light, warmth and water are the main ingredients.
As citizens, we have been looking at relationships and what makes a happy relationships. We have been looking at what makes a happy home. We created a recipe and ingredients as to what makes a happy home for us.
As computer experts, we have been looking at our new enquiry, digital music. Firstly, we have been talking about how music makes us feel. We studied the music of Gustav Holt, who named his pieces after the planets. We compared Mars and Venus and discussed how they were different and how they made us feel. We then used adjectives to describe the planets. Finally, we discussed rhythm and pace and looked a website called, music lab to help us explore instruments and rhythms.
As dancers, we have been learning about different ways we can mirror each other to make our dances flow.
As artists, we have been creating our own fire of London pictures using oil pastels and silhouettes of the buildings. They are exquisite and we worked so hard.
