Term 6 Week 4

This week, with the increasing temperatures, school will be closed to staff and pupils on Wednesday and Thursday.

Please find a list of activities that your children may want to complete at home.

Stay safe, stay hydrated and we will see you at 8:35am on Friday.

English Activities:

This week in English we have been looking at rhyming poems. Can you write a poem that rhymes? You could write a poem about the hot weather, animals and their habitats or even ice cream flavours! We would love to read some of your poems so you can send them into the year 2 email address below:

Reading Activities:

As a reader, read the following poem and and answer the questions below.

You could even perform the poem to an adult at home!

Summertime

What does summertime mean to you? This is what summertime means to me.
Time off school, long sunny nights.
Playing in the paddling pool,
squealing with delight!
Trips to the beach with my bucket and spade,
building large sandcastles,
reading in the shade.
Watching the busy, buzzing bees fly
around beautiful flowers
and across the sky.
Picnics in the park and eating ice cream.
Shades and sun cream on
as the golden rays beam.
There are always some days where there is rain
but I’m spending time with my family
so I really can’t complain.

Question 1: Name 1 thing that the person did on the beach.

Question 2: Find and copy 2 words that rhyme.

Question 3: Why do you think the person in the poem
has put their shades and sun cream on?

Question 4: Predict another activity that you could do
when the sun is shining.

Maths Activities:

This week in maths we have been comparing lengths. Can you find some objects at home and compare the lengths using the following mathematical vocabulary: short, shorter, shortest, long, longer and longest.
