Term 6 Week 7

This week is art week!

As artists, we have been looking at the work of Frieda Kahlo. She is considered as one of the most important artists of modern times. She was famous for painting self portraits and portraits showing strong women. At the start of the week we learned all about Frieda and complied some facts about her. We then had a go at drawing a portrait of her before ending the week by creating our own self portraits and taking part in a whole school carousel celebrating the work that each class has produced.

As scientists, we learned that in order for a seed to begin to grow, it needs 2 key things. These are light, water and warmth (or the correct temperature). We observed and tested this process by creating and designing our own plant pots full of cress seeds. We made sure that they received light, water and warmth. They then began to grow proving that these things are required. We compared it to some cress seeds that we left in the dark, without light, warmth and water. These didn’t even start to grow! In addition, we learned that some seeds can be eaten or produced food that we can eat so we all took our cress home to taste!
