Term Two-Week One

A very warm welcome back to you all. We hope you had a wonderful half term and are ready for a busy term two, leading up to Christmas.

As writers this week, we have been exploring our new book, ‘The Snail and the Whale’. We have been using skills of predicting and persuading. At the end of the week we looked at describing a scene from the book using expanded noun phrases (a number of nouns to create extra description for the reader). We have also been remembering how we form letters, looking at curly caterpillar letters: a,e,o,g,c,s,d,f,q.

As mathematicians this week, we have started our addition and subtraction learning. To start we recapped our number bonds to 10, to see the pattern in the numbers. We then used this knowledge to help us find fact families using our number bonds to 10 knowledge.

As scientists, we have been investigating liquids. How they move and if they all moved/can be poured like water. We predicted this first and then tested these out by timing them to see how fast they went down a slope. We found out there were slower liquids than water. Some excellent scientific knowledge and language.

As computer experts, we have started our new learning on how to take a good photos. During this term we will be looking at how photos can be altered to change the photo. We will also be taking photos and critiquing them on the lighting, distance and how steady we are when we take the photo.

As citizens, we have kicked started our new term with another ‘No outsiders’ book. This one is called, The Great book of families. We recapped what diversity means and how it looks in different aspects of our lives. We then looked at how we could celebrate diversity.
