Term 2- Week 1

Week 1

In phonics we have been learning new phonemes (sounds). EYFS have learnt l, ll, ss and Year 1 have started learning Phase 5 sounds, focusing on ay, ou, ie and ea this week.

In Maths this week, foundation continued to subitise numbers to five. Year 1 children started looking at measurement whilst comparing different objects. We focused on using the correct mathematical language.

As scientists this week we looked at seasons and the changes. We went on an Autumn walk and discussed what we could see and hear. We spoke about how we know it is Autumn and what we looked out for. We then used this knowledge as writers and wrote sentences to describe what we can see, hear and smell in Autumn.

As Geographers we looked at where Weston-Super-Mare is and explored google earth to find out about location and space, looking at the country, region, county, town and then village.

We enjoyed some fun Halloween activities on Monday and learning about Guy Fawkes and bonfire night.

In Art this week we were experimenting with different textures using crayons to rub on different objects.
