Term 2 week 2 8.11.21
EYFS
This week we have been very excited as the year 1 children shared their maps with us to direct us to the postboxes in Uphill. We used their maps to find the postbox and delivery our letters to Father Christmas.
In phonics we have been learning some new sounds: ck (comes at the end of most words e.g. rocket, duck) e (cracking an egg) u (opening an umbrella) r (growling like a dog)
This video can be used to recap the sounds of the week:

We have also learnt new sight words: to, go, no. These are words we can not sound out (segment) we need to remember these by sight.
In Maths this week, the children will continue to engage with activities that underline the purpose of counting – to find out ‘how many’ objects there are altogether. They will reinforce their understanding of cardinality – that the last number in the count tells us ‘how many’ things there are altogether in a set of objects.
On Thursday 11th November we are going to have a 2 minute silence to remember service men and women who have fought for our country.

In Maths this week we have been focusing on 1 less than a number. We have build towers and taken one away to find one less as well as locating a number on the number line and moving back a space to find one less.
Here is a catchy song to practice one less:
