Term 2- Week 2

Week 2

What a lovely (but wet) week!

This week in phonics EYFS have learnt new phonemes: l, ll, ss and Year 1 have started Phase 5 sounds, learning ‘ay, ie, ou, ea’.A key focus for EYFS in maths this week has been deepening their understanding of 5 as a quantity by linking the number itself to the 5 fingers on one hand. We explored ways to represent numbers to 5 using both their fingers and the Hungarian number pattern. Year 1 have been doing subtraction using a variety of methods such as crossing out and counting back.

Today we spoke about Remembrance day. We discussed what remembrance day is, why we wear poppies and showed our respect with a 2 minute silence.

We have also started a new class book ‘stickman’. We have talked about what we like, dislike and puzzles us about this book. Following this, EYFS did some writing using the pictures from the book and Year 1 created a descriptive ‘MISSING’ poster to help find Stickman.

As Geographers we have found out that the United Kingdom is made of 4 countries: England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Over the next few weeks we will find out more about each part of the UK. We focused on London this week and learned about the different landmarks.
